Wednesday, February 17, 2010
Time: 12:30 - 1:30pm
Place: The Lookout Room
Speaker: Dr. Kevin Learned. Global Connections Through Rotary International

Rotary International is 1.2 million people located in approximately 200 different countries and political subdivision who are working to make the world a better place through four emphases: literacy, especially for women and children; clean water and sanitation; nutrition and health. Among other projects, Rotarians have raised in excess of $1 billion in the last 20 years to try to eliminate polio. Each year we raise in excess of $100 million and spend it on projects in developing countries addressing these four areas.

Rotary offers the prestigious Ambassadorial Scholarship to a student studying in or from Southern Idaho and Eastern Oregon each year. This $25,000 cash scholarship is for study abroad. Local Rotarians also send (all expenses paid) a team of four young professionals (ages 25-40) each year to another part of the world to live with Rotarians for a month. In the past few years we have sent teams to Nigeria, Korea, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Brazil, England and Germany. In May of 2011 we will send a team to Ghana.
